A complaint against a licensed contractor must be filed in writing with the Board within 4 years of the act or omission. The Board then has 2 years to start disciplinary action or dismiss the complaint (NRS 624.331). (source: Nevada Legislature)
What happens next
- After you file, the Board sends you an acknowledgment and mails the contractor a copy of your complaint.
- An investigator decides whether a jobsite visit is needed for workmanship issues; the visit is done with you and the contractor present.
- If corrections are needed, the contractor gets a Notice to Correct, usually within 5 working days of the visit, and generally has 20 to 30 days to comply.
- The Board recommends letting the contractor in to make the repairs the investigator lists. Many complaints are resolved without discipline.

Grounds for discipline
- Abandoning a project without legal excuse, failing to complete it for the contract price, or failing to honor a contract or written warranty are grounds for discipline (NRS 624.301).
- Work that falls below the building code adopted by the local building department is also grounds for discipline (NRS 624.3017).

Not sure where to file?
If you are not sure which agency handles your complaint, the Nevada Attorney General's office says you may submit its complaint form. (source: Nevada Attorney General)
