Look up any contractor on the Board's Contractor License Search before you sign. Licensed contractors must put their license number in every ad (NRS 624.720). NSCB Southern Nevada office: (702) 486-1100. (source: Nevada State Contractors Board) (source: Nevada Legislature)
What Nevada ads must show
- A person who is not licensed and advertises construction work or a work of improvement must say in the ad that they are not licensed.
- All advertising by a licensed contractor must include the company name and the contractor's license number.
- Using a license number that does not belong to you in an ad is unlawful.
- The Board can order unlawful advertising to stop and the phone number in the ad disconnected.
Which license to look for
Electricians are licensed by the Nevada State Contractors Board in classification C-2 Electrical contracting, which covers installing any electrical wires, fixtures, appliances, apparatuses, raceways and conduits. Subclassification C-2a covers wiring on existing structures, and C-2f Residential wiring covers work up to 600 volts on structures no more than three stories above ground (NAC 624.200).
